Rockland Trust JCC Pavilion

Designed in collaboration with Andrew Falkenstein of Concise Design, the pavilion at the JCC in Newton was intended to be a true multi-purpose space. Performing arts take center stage in the large amphitheater when the weather is nice, while adjacent classrooms house a wide range of educational activities even when the weather is not. Additionally, the classrooms serve as both support rooms and staging areas for the more robust amphitheater performances. Behind it all, a rear deck faces adjoining conservation land, providing a quiet space where individuals and small groups can connect with nature. The material choices of naturally weathering wood allow for low maintenance while carrying through this connection to the surrounding landscape.
