Connecting nature
with the arts and the community.

Rockland Trust JCC Pavilion

Designed in collaboration with Andrew Falkenstein of Concise Design, the pavilion at the JCC in Newton is intended to be a true, multi-purpose space for the community.

When the weather is nice, performing arts take center stage in the large amphitheater. When the weather is less agreeable, the adjacent classrooms house a wide range of educational activities. Additionally, the classrooms also serve as support rooms and staging areas for the more robust amphitheater performances. Behind it all, a rear deck faces the adjoining conservation land, providing a quiet space where individuals and small groups can connect directly with nature. The material choices of naturally weathering wood allow for low maintenance while carrying through the connection to the surrounding landscape.
