Beautiful old
mixed with stunning new.

Jamaica Plain Residence

Boston is full of incredible old homes with irreplaceable bones. We had the thrill of restoring some of those old bones with a gut renovation and a third-floor addition in this grand, three-story house in Jamaica Plain.

We started our work on the main level, where we moved structural elements around to create a larger, more unified space for the whole family to enjoy. We connected the kitchen to the living and the sitting rooms, as well as the new rear deck. Then, we layered on the function with a brand-new butler pantry and a brand-new mud/laundry room. From there, you can make your way up the restored butler stairs to the second floor, where you’ll find three redone bedrooms, two renovated bathrooms, a new den, and a new front deck. But the most significant rejuvenation of the house happened on the third floor, where we transformed the entire floor into a completely new master suite. We reworked the roofline to add more space but kept its original aesthetic to maintain the classic attic angles. The result is a true master suite that includes a sitting area, a double-sided fireplace, and a clawfoot tub. All in all, it was a project which brough a lot of modern in, but also brought a ton of old back to life through thoughtful design and restoration.
