Reworking a brownstone
down to the brick and beam.

South End Townhouse

The homeowners of this beautiful brownstone in Boston's South End are fantastic repeat customers of ours who were looking to transform the interior of the space while maintaining the exterior's historic integrity.

We started the project with a complete gut. This allowed us to expose loads of the building's gorgeous, original brick and use it as the focal point to rebuild around. We then designed a sleek, floating staircase from the bottom, all the way to the top. This not only let us better connect the home's vertical flow, but it also let us showcase more of that great brick. We layered on even more of the historic charm by repurposing an old elevator car as the first floor's coat closet. On top of that, we also reimagined the exterior window shutters of yore as operable, interior shutters. All in all, it was a bold transformation with the modern sensibilities and conveniences our clients wanted, ... We’re very proud to say that this design also got its share of press in Boston Home Magazine.
